Cheap Movers: Ways to Having a Worry Free Relocation.
Moving cross country can be worrisome experience. It has happened to our family twice in the last five years. My first idea, once again, was finding a dependable relocation company as the one we had used in the past was no longer in business and had caused us an unending amount of problems for us.
As a beginning, I contacted several cross country movers in the phone book. I succeeded in gathering several to come to the house and prepare some quotes. I was not so much interested in cheap movers as I was in the quality of their packing/loading and the references that they could offer.
The last company that we hired caused damage to our things and, some of it was missing upon arrival at the new home. The largest mistake we made with that company was not going to an outside source to insure our goods. After months of trying to get representatives from both the moving company and the insurance company to get a hold of us, I gave up. We never were able to find our items, nor were we able to be compensated, as they had subsequently gone out of business.
Two of the moving companies were rejected by us immediately as they were unwilling to unpack the boxes at our new place without charging us an extra fee and also were not able or willing to provide references. However, when Mr. Bill Smith arrived, wearing a uniform and looking crisp and clean, I felt relieved. He made me immediately at ease about the move. Provided me with all the information I needed to explain the process. The estimate he would provide me was final. There would not be any hidden fees and they also had a good insurance company that they went through to insure our goods. All of this, as well as unpacking at the new home was all included in the cost. We accepted his quote and booked dates for the packing and loading.
On the big day, Bill arrived, along with the workers, to oversee and supervise the process. They brought blankets to put down on the floor so that dirt would not be brought into the house. They wrapped all our breakable things in bubble wrap and packing paper. Our furniture was prepped by removing legs, and wrapping it in plastic to protect it from getting dirty during the move. I was amazed with the quickness and the skill at which the packing was done.
On the following day, Bill arrived again with his crew for the loading process. The truck was very clean and empty. It would hold only our things, no one else’s. The movers used care while moving things out of the house, onto the truck, so that no damage would be done to the walls or door frames. They worked quickly and with ease. They were polite, and also made the kids feel like they were part of the move as well. They let them pack their soft toys and permitted the kids to mark their own boxes with kids stickers for identification. In doing this, it took away some of the stress of the move for the kids.
