How To Treat A Prolapsed Hemorrhoid

A person suffering with a prolapsed hemorrhoid can experience a lot of pain and internal hemorrhoidsuncomfortableness.

In some cases, a prolapsed hemorrhoid will heal on its own when treated with a variety of home remedies.

What Is A Prolapsed Hemorrhoid?

So what is a prolapsed hemorrhoid?

A prolapsed hemorrhoid is an internal hemorrhoid that has descended outside of the rectum and anus.

It can be seen and felt outside of the body.

Grades Of Internal Hemorrhoids

There are 4 Grades or Stages of internal hemorrhoids.

In stage one the hemorrhoids are usually pretty painless.  You may not even know they exist unless you noticed a little bright red blood in the toilet after having a bowel movement or on the toilet paper after wiping.

In stage two, the hemorrhoids may bleed a bit more and may prolapse from the rectum and anus when having bowel movement but will return to normal position on their own.

When internal hemorrhoids hit stage 3, they are usually pretty painful and bleed quite a bit.

At this point, when the hemorrhoids prolapse, they have to be manually placed back inside the rectum.

Grade 4 is the worst classification for internal hemorrhoids.

At stage 4 the hemorrhoids have prolapsed, are extremely painful and will not stay inside the rectum at all.

This is when surgical intervention is usually no longer an option but a necessity.

Prolapsed Hemorrhoid Treatments

If prolapsed hemorrhoids have not advanced to stage 4, it may be possible to treat and heal them with some simple home remedies such as;

Witch Hazel – The astringent and anti-inflammatory properties of witch hazel help to soothe the hemorrhoid and reduce swelling.

It can also help to stop hemorrhoid bleeding.

You can apply witch hazel directly to the hemorrhoid with a cotton ball.

To keep swelling and irritation down, you should also apply witch hazel after having a bowel movement.

Aloe Vera – Applying aloe vera gel to the hemorrhoid area will provide soothing relief, calm irritation and work to heal the hemorrhoid tissue.

Aloe vera can be applied several times daily.

Warm Sitz Baths – This is one of the most popular and recommended ways to treat hemorrhoids.

Not only does it keep the hemorrhoid area clean but the warm water helps to reduce inflammation, ease the pain and soothe itching.

Dietary Changes – Adding healthy fiber rich foods, such as fruits, vegetables and lean proteins will help to improve digestion and alleviate constipation, which will eliminate the need to strain during a bowel movement.

Exercise – Working out several times per week will help improve your overall health and body functions.

Exercise also helps to move wastes through the body faster.

Staying Hydrated – Water is essential to good health.  When your body is properly hydrated, everything functions better.

Water helps to move waste products through your system faster, improve digestion and helps all areas of the body to function better.

Ice – A simple ice pack can provide immediate cooling relief to the hemorrhoid area on contact and help to reduce swelling.

Ice can be used on the hemorrhoid as much as needed throughout the day.

Over The Counter Hemorrhoid Creams and Ointments Hemorrhoid creams and ointments can provide fast relief from hemorrhoid pain during a flare-up.

Although they work well in the moment to provide pain relief they do not work to cure hemorrhoids.

Just be sure to choose a product that is designed for your symptoms.

Oral Pain Relievers – Over the counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen work well as a prolapsed hemorrhoid treatment because they can help to calm the pain associated with hemorrhoids.

Oral pain relievers can also be used in conjunction with other home hemorrhoid remedies such as sitz baths, ice and witch hazel.

Although prolapsed hemorrhoids can be extremely uncomfortable and painful, these simple remedies may help to get them under control.

If your condition has not improved after using these hemorrhoid remedies for a few days you should contact your doctor immediately for other treatment options which may include hemorrhoid surgery.
